The star has donated the full amount of his £25,000 honor winnings to the MVT, which operates to preserve the Britain's grassroots music venues.

Fender was presented with the prize on 16 October as his new release his work was chosen as the outstanding release of the previous year.

He has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing my current career if it wasn't for all the performances I played around the area, and further afield, when I was starting out," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these venues have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, well-known musicians like Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its initiatives to help venues survive, by applying a modest fee to their ticket prices, which goes to help independent venues.

Sam Fender also joined in, collecting over £100k on his recent tour to help thirty-eight grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation helped locations that were dealing with imminent closure due to issues arising from flooding, blazes and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, court cases and sound issues.

Additional spaces received funding support in upgrading infrastructure and gear that helped musicians and audiences.

"The idea that funds from concerts in major spaces supports the independent spots, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just sensible," Fender has commented.

He is among several artists to donate his honor winnings to worthy causes.

Back when the band earned the prize in 1996 for their release the album, frontman the singer announced that the group would give their cash to the charity War Child.

That year, artist she divided her award between multiple organizations, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also gave a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they required updated gear," she shared with the media.

Previously, they contributed their prize money to the youth organization that nurtured their band, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Additionally winners that year M People contributed their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was found to have the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," remarked singer Heather Small. "The cash was the extra but we could do without the bonus, because we had the honor. So our victory impacted another person's life."

Last week, the MVT shared it had protected several local spots in that region, by bringing them into community ownership.

The first in Southampton and The Croft in Bristol were bought under the community ownership program, which is supported by a national body and enthusiasts who purchase "stakes" in the buildings.
